TZFM201 Spring Week 1 Practice

Taken in a peaceful church in Northumbria, I loved how the light came in so beautifully through the stained glass window.
1.7
What techniques did you use when taking it?

I used my feet and knees to help with the composition. I didn’t need a large depth of field, so shooting with an aperture of f7.1 meant that I could keep the ISO low and have a fast shutter speed to avoid camera shake.

Why do you like this image?

It captures a moment after a very short rain shower when the sun came out, highlighting the ivy and creating shadows. I like the regular pattern of the bricks and the way the ivy mostly follows a vertical path. The ivy is composed of irregular regularity, and gives jagged shadows on the wall. The rain/sun patter/irregularity are very satisfying contrasts for me.

What does it tell us about your photographic style?

That’s a tough question to answer. I’m not sure what my style is. This photo is quite ‘me’ because of the contrasts I mention above.
